Promise Grants

Agency:
Komen Foundation

Research projects supported by Promise Grants must provide an integrated approach to solving a critical challenge that will lead to the rapid translation of scientific discoveries into new or enhanced clinical tools and applications with the greatest potential to significantly reduce breast cancer incidence and/or mortality within the next decade. Projects must be designed to yield converging evidence that answers an important over-arching problem in breast cancer (e.g., resistance to currently available targeted therapies or novel therapies for triple negative breast cancer). Relevant research applications may include components that focus on breast cancer biology; genetics; epidemiology; prevention; detection; risk assessment; biomarkers of risk, disease burden, and/or treatment response or resistance; novel therapeutics; lifestyle interventions with the potential to affect disease outcomes (e.g., incidence and/or mortality); and novel approaches that enhance understanding of the breast cancer disease process.

Catalyst Grant: Maternal Health - From Pre-conception to the Empty Nest

Agency:
CIHR

CIHR funds a great deal of research in both reproductive and child health, but far less attention has been given to maternal health, even though mothers assume a large responsibility for bearing and raising children, and even though there is a direct connection between the health of the mother and the health of her offspring.
To address this gap, IHDCYH, IGH, and IAPH organized a consensus workshop with key stakeholders (including researchers, clinicians, health care providers, and policy makers) to establish priorities in maternal health research and the appropriate funding tools to pursue those priorities. Based on in-depth discussions during the workshop, four priority research areas relevant to maternal health were identified:
• Determinants and consequences of maternal health disparities across the life course
• The relationship of pregnancy and its complications to subsequent maternal physical and/or mental health
• Health systems, health care models, and health human resources
• Pathways to positive maternal health: interventions, actions and policies
