Faculty Training Fellowships are awarded to Canadian faculty members:
• Who have had little or no previous involvement with India Studies and wish to undertake an intensive programme of study at an Indian institution
• Who wish to change their disciplinary focus within India Studies
• Who wish to develop or enhance their knowledge of an Indian language
• Who wish to carry out comparative research in India
Faculty Training Fellowships are for a minimum of three to a maximum of twelve months. The awards are made for the April 1, 2010 – March 31, 2011 time period, however fellows cannot travel to India before the Government of India grants its approval. Fellowships for successful applicants are subject to approval by the Indian Consulate or High Commission closest to their city of residence. This process may not be complete before April 2010. The Shastri Institute has no control over the length of this process.

Faculty Research Fellowships are awarded to Canadian scholars who have demonstrated excellence in a specific field of India Studies and wish to conduct research in an area related to their field of expertise. Faculty Research Fellowships are for a minimum of three to a maximum of twelve months. The awards are made for the April 1, 2010 – March 31, 2011 period, however fellows cannot travel to India before the Government of India grants its approval. Fellowships for successful applicants are subject to approval by the Indian Consulate or High Commission closest to their city of residence. This process may not be complete before April 2010. Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships are awarded to scholars who have completed a Ph.D. and wish to do research in India. Applicants need not have an academic position. Awards will not be made if it has been greater than five years since completion of a doctoral degree. Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships are for a minimum of three to a maximum of twelve months. The awards are made for the April 1, 2010 – March 31, 2011 period, however fellows cannot travel to India before the Government of India grants its approval. Fellowships for successful applicants are subject to approval by the Indian Consulate or High Commission closest to their city of residence. This process may not be complete before April 2010. Doctoral Student Research Fellowships are awarded to students enrolled in Doctoral programmes outside India with a significant India Studies focus, to enable them to conduct research in India towards their degree. Students must affiliate with an Indian institution. Doctoral Student Research Fellowships are for a minimum of three to a maximum of twelve months. Master’s Student Research Fellowships are awarded to students enrolled in Master’s programmes outside India with a significant India Studies focus, to enable them to conduct research in India towards their degree. Students must affiliate with an Indian institution.
