Applicants will demonstrate a rigorous and insightful approach to research, and the ability to relate their research to clinical medicine and to the improvement of health. They will have a clear sense of how they wish to develop their careers as clinicians and scientists and show the potential to become research and/or clinical leaders in the future. Applicants may submit research projects that fit anywhere within MRC’s remit, however, it is expected that applicants’ clinical work helps to inform and strengthen their research work. MRC Population Health Scientist FellowshipDetails: MRCDeadline: October 9, 2009Agency: MRCPopulation health sciences are concerned with the study of social and environmental influences on physical and mental health and well-being, with reference to a range of ‘up-stream’ influences such as early life experiences, the social and economic conditions in which we live and environmental exposures that can affect wellbeing. Relevant areas of enquiry include the distribution and social patterning of health and well-being, ill health and health related behaviours, social and biological determinants of health and their interaction, the accumulation of risk and health trajectories throughout the life course and across generations, and the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of preventive or therapeutic interventions aimed at risk reduction in whole populations. Senior Clinical FellowshipDetails: MRS webpageDeadline: November 21, 2008Agency: MRCThe MRC Senior Clinical Fellowship is a prestigious award for clinical researchers of exceptional ability. Applicants are expected to be proven independent researchers, to be well-qualified for academic research and to demonstrate promise as future research leaders. Support is provided for five years. Clinical applicants should hold a PhD/DPhil or MD and will have at least three years’ relevant postdoctoral research experience. Applications from current MRC Clinician Scientist Fellows are particularly welcome.The Senior Clinical Fellowship is open to hospital doctors, dentists, general practitioners, nurses, midwives and members of the allied health professions. There are no residence eligibility restrictions. MRC Fellowships are not available to individuals who hold a tenured academic position at the time of application. If you hold a tenured position you may apply for funding under one of the MRC’s grant schemes. There are no residence eligibility restrictions for this fellowship. Clinical Scientist FellowshipDetails: MRS webpageDeadline: November 21, 2008Agency: MRCThe MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship is a post-doctoral clinical fellowship providing up to four years’ support .There is also a patient-oriented version of the scheme that provides up to five years’ support, which is intended for research which requires up to 40 per cent of the Fellow’s time to be spent in clinical work. At least 50 per cent of this clinical work should be of direct relevance to the research project. |
