Priority Announcements on New Investigator Salary Award competitions offer additional sources of funding for highly rated applications that are relevant to specific CIHR research priority areas or mandates. Applications are submitted through the "201009MSH" competition of the New Investigator Salary Award: 2010-2011 funding opportunity.
The New Investigator Salary Award program is designed to provide outstanding New Investigators the opportunity to develop and demonstrate their independence in initiating and conducting health research through provision of a contribution to their salary. A New Investigator is defined as a researcher who has held a full time research appointment for a period of 0 to 60 months as of the September competition deadline.

Clinician-Scientist Training Award: 2010-2011

The Clinician-Scientist program has two phases. Phase 1 provides stipends for up to six years of training support. Phase 2 provides a contribution to the salary of the recipient for up to six years.
This program (Phase 1) is directed towards highly qualified and motivated clinicians who have been identified by a Canadian medical school or dental school as having strong potential to become clinician scientists.
For Industry-Partnered Programs in this launch, candidates must secure the sponsorship of an eligible Rx&D member company before a registration can be submitted.

This award is designed to provide protected time for early-career clinical investigators to undertake clinical or translational genetics research.

NICHD-IHDCYH 2010 Summer Institutes - Pharmacology

The primary goal of the CANADA-HOPE Scholarship Program is to further develop international collaborative efforts between researchers. The short term goal is to enable promising individuals to be mentored by prominent Canadian researchers. The long term objective of the Program is to enable promising scientists and clinicians from Low and Middle Income Countries (LMIC), as identified by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the United Nations (UN), to be exposed to some of the best science, laboratories and training environments in Canada. The next two rounds of this program will focus on sub continental South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. The goals of the Program are to encourage a broad spectrum of foreign post-doctoral scholars (PhDs, MDs or health professionals) to train in health and health related areas which in the long term, would lead to the development of sustainable programs to help people in developing countries.

IHSPR Rising Star Award

NOTE: This program is largely a university nomination-based program, therefore please refer to your current institution to confirm the institution application deadline which will be BEFORE the CIHR application deadline noted above. Most institutions will manage a pre-selection process to select which of their students’ applications will be put forward to CIHR on the CIHR deadline date. Only applicants that are not registered at a university for the Fall semester prior to the CIHR application deadline will submit their applications directly to CIHR by the above deadline.

Young Investigators (YI) Forum Abstract Travel Award

The mission of the ICRH is to support research into the causes, mechanisms, prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, support systems, and palliation for a wide range of conditions associated with the heart, lung, brain (stroke), blood vessels, blood, critical and intensive care, and sleep. In addition, ICRH embraces a range of research from fundamental bio-medical and clinical research, to research on health systems, health services, the health of populations, societal and cultural dimensions of health and environmental influences on health. The Young Investigator (YI) Forum is a major training and educational initiative of CIHR’s Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health. Each year, the YI Forum provides young investigators and trainees with an opportunity to showcase research, interact with senior researchers and faculty, and learn about career development and state of the art research and technologies.
