The program will also assist journals as they seek to take advantage of advances in communication technologies. Funds will be awarded to help defray the costs of publishing scholarly articles, to assist with distribution costs, and to support journal organizations in their transitions to digital media. Deadline: June 30, 2008 Details: International Opportunities FundAgency: Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada SSHRC’s new international policy and strategy acknowledges the importance of international collaboration to help sustain excellence in research and position Canadian research in the world. It recognizes the need to create better opportunities for Canadian researchers to lead and participate in international collaborative research. The policy also addresses the importance of promoting the distinctive contribution that Canadian social sciences and humanities research can make to international research agendas and to better understanding of major global issues. Accordingly, the International Opportunities Fund (IOF) program will help researchers develop, participate in, and lead diverse international collaborative research activities. Deadline: May 7, 2008 Details: Research Development InitiativeAgency: Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada SSHRC invites proposals that meet the program’s overall objective of supporting innovative research in its initial stages that will lead to the development of mature research projects. Proposals should not be full-fledged, stand-alone projects that aim at advanced research results, as this type of research is already supported by Council’s Standard Research Grants and other programs. Nor are RDI grants intended to support ongoing programs of research. Applicants must clearly distinguish their RDI project from previous or ongoing research. The proposal should address and develop a distinct, delimited research issue, present clearly defined plans for the research, and propose a budget that is fully justified by those plans.
