BC Environmental and Occupational Health Research Network

The purpose of the grant is to be a catalyst for activities which contribute to formal institutional agreements or other long-term partnerships between Canadian and Indian institutions. Funds may be used to support a bi-national seminar, conference, meeting, or other activities that:
• build awareness of potential collaboration opportunities between Canadian and Indian institutions
• promote sharing of knowledge, information, resources and expertise
• showcase existing Canada-India research collaborations and their impact on society
• assist researchers to take advantage of Canada-India collaborative opportunities

Funds will be provided to a bi-national research team to undertake public policy relevant research toward one or more of the eight United Nations Millennium Development Goals. The Millennium Development Goals are as follows:
• Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
• Achieve universal primary education
• Promote gender equality and empower women
• Reduce child mortality Improve maternal health
• Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
• Ensure environmental sustainability
• Develop a global partnership for development

This funding opportunity aims to assist scholars to participate in conferences and academic meetings through travel subsidies. The Shastri Institute will provide up to $1,200 to fund 50% of the scholar’s total travel costs (NB costs for meals, per diem and accommodation are not eligible). Grants are available to Canadian scholars for travel to/and/or in India and to Indian scholars for travel to/and/or in Canada. Applicants must have been invited to participate by an academic institution and be affiliated with, or travelling to a Shastri Institute member institution.
