Partnership Development Grants

Community – University Research Alliance

The purpose of the program is to support the creation of alliances between community organizations and postsecondary institutions which, through a process of ongoing collaboration and mutual learning, will foster innovative research, training and the creation of new knowledge in areas of importance for the social, cultural or economic development of Canadian communities.
Specific objectives are to:
• promote sharing of knowledge, resources and expertise between postsecondary institutions and organizations in the community;
• enrich research, teaching methods and curricula in postsecondary institutions;
• reinforce community decision-making and problem-solving capacity; and

Standard Research Grants

The broad purpose of the Standard Research Grants program is to support research and develop excellence in research activities in the social sciences and humanities.
The specific objectives of the program are to:
• support high-quality independent programs of research, as proposed by scholars and judged by their peers;
• provide opportunities for the training of future researchers;
• contribute to the development or elaboration of new theoretical or methodological approaches to research;
• maintain and develop vigorous disciplinary research activities;
• foster and develop vigorous collaborative, multidisciplinary research activities among researchers in the social sciences and humanities; and
• assist the communication of research results both within and beyond the academic community.

Research Development Initiatives

The overall objective of the RDI program is to support research in its initial stages by supporting the development of new ways of analyzing, structuring, integrating and transferring knowledge in the humanities and the social sciences. The specific objectives of the program are to help researchers to:
• develop new research questions;
• explore conceptual and methodological perspectives and directions;
• critically analyze and assess research, including its achievements, impacts, strengths and state of development.

Major Collaborative Research Initiatives

The Major Collaborative Research Initiatives (MCRI) program supports leading-edge research with true potential for intellectual breakthrough that addresses broad and critical issues of intellectual, social, economic and cultural significance through the effective coordination and integration of diverse research activities and research results. The MCRI program seeks to support research with a strong analytical component, research of such significance and quality that it brings international recognition to the team, involves appropriate partners and stakeholders and produces results that will have a major impact on Canadian scholarship and society.

Public Outreach Workshop and Conference Grants

Activities include workshops and conferences directed primarily to non-academic audiences. Applicants are encouraged to describe how the proposed knowledge mobilization activities are expected to increase the capacity of selected audiences to understand and use research results.

Public Outreach Dissemination Grants

Agency:

This grant can be used to mobilize knowledge by incorporating any of the following activities. Note that the preparation of a deliverable should be set in the context of a cohesive and fully articulated mobilization plan or strategy.
Dissemination activities include, but are not limited to: adapting texts or presentations to different audiences (including translations into French, English or an Aboriginal language); policy briefs; knowledge syntheses; articles in newspapers or weekly and monthly magazines, whether specialized or general interest (publications in scholarly journals are not eligible); interactive technologies, databases and audio-visual products; media events (such as interviews, or television and radio presentations); press conferences; public debates or testimonies; software or NetWare; educational aids, instruments or equipment; artistic exhibits, performances or festivals; submissions to public commissions, roundtables and workshops; and virtual networking and interactions.

Aboriginal Research Pilot Program - Development Grants

Development Grants support the development of research partnerships in their initial, developmental stages. Projects are expected to develop knowledge with respect to Aboriginal research and related issues. The grants can be used, for example, to fund research workshops, research networks, community research consultations, and the development of research ideas and methodologies.
Projects are also expected to:
• develop new, and/or enhance existing, partnerships for the co-creation of knowledge;
• develop new, and/or enhance, research questions and relevant knowledge systems;
• explore conceptual and methodological perspectives and directions on a range of issues and topics relevant to Canada’s Aboriginal peoples; and
• assess the potential of existing research (including its impacts and relevance to a range of issues and topics important to Canada’s Aboriginal peoples).
