These grants recognize the creativity and innovation that are at the heart of all research advances, whether made individually or in teams. Researchers are free to work in the mode most appropriate for the research area. Deadline: August 1, 2010 Details: Chairs for Women in Science and Engineering ProgramAgency: NSERC This Chair for Women in Science and Engineering Program (CWSE) was launched in 1996. The goal of the program is to increase the participation of women in science and engineering and to provide role models for women active in, and considering, careers in these fields. NSERC funding must be matched by cash contributions from corporate sponsors. Deadline: May 15, 2010 Details: Collaborative Health Research Projects ProgramAgency: NSERC The Collaborative Health Research Projects (CHRP) program supports focused collaborative research projects involving any field of the natural sciences or engineering and the health sciences. If successful, the projects will be novel and lead to health benefits for Canadians, more effective health services, or economic development in health-related areas. The proposed project may range from fundamental knowledge creation to research on knowledge application relevant to industry or public policy. Typically, support will be for up to three years for defined projects (which are not existing research programs), with clear milestones and decision points. Deadline: May 3, 2010 Details: Strategic Network Grants ProgramAgency: NSERC The objective of the Strategic Network Grants (SNG) Program is to increase research and training in targeted areas that could strongly enhance Canada’s economy, society and/or environment within the next 10 years. Deadline: May 1, 2010 Details: Collaborative Research and Training Experience ProgramAgency: NSERC The Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) Program supports the training of teams of highly qualified students and postdoctoral fellows from Canada and abroad through the development of innovative training programs that: Deadline: May 3, 2010 Details: Major Resources Support ProgramAgency: NSERC The objective of the MRS program is to facilitate the effective access by Canadian academic researchers to major and unique national or international (based in Canada) experimental or thematic research resources by financially assisting these resources to remain in a state of readiness for researchers to use. MRS grants are not intended to support resources that are standard in a discipline or commonly available in Canadian universities. The MRS program also aims to facilitate access by Canadian academic researchers, who come together as national consortia, to major international resources located outside Canada, the equivalent of which is not available in Canada. This support excludes any direct financial support towards the operating and maintenance costs of such resources. Deadline: May 1, 2010 Details: International Research Initiative on Adaptation to Climate ChangeAgency: NSERC Adaptation to climate change is a shared challenge that presents a unique opportunity for collaborative and comparative research to advance knowledge, shape policy and programs, mentor students and facilitate networks. Adaptation is the adjustment in natural or human systems in response to actual or expected climatic conditions or their effects, which moderates harm or exploits beneficial opportunities. This initiative will support the formation of multi-national teams from Canada and LIC-MIC, which will develop networks and programs of research. Successful applicants will initiate multi-disciplinary and multi-sectoral collaborations with researchers, communities, practitioners and policy-makers in Canada and around the globe. Deadline: January 7, 2010 Details: Idea to Innovation (I2I)Agency: NSERC The objective of the Idea to Innovation (I2I) Program is to accelerate the pre-competitive development of promising technology and promote its transfer to Canadian companies. The program supports research and development projects with recognized technology transfer potential by providing crucial assistance to college and university faculty members in the early stages of technology validation and market connection. Deadline: January 11, 2010 Details: College and Community Innovation ProgramAgency: NSERC The objective of the CCI Program is to increase innovation at the community and/or regional level by enabling Canadian colleges to increase their capacity to work with local companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It supports applied research and collaborations that facilitate commercialization, as well as technology transfer, adaptation and adoption of new technologies. Deadline: November 6, 2009 Details: Chairs in Environmental Design Engineering (CEDE)Agency: NSERC The Chairs in Environmental Design Engineering (CEDE) program was established to help universities meet the growing demand for environmental design engineering talent, and create and develop new and innovative designs, design concepts and design tools.
