Call for concept notes: Canadian Partnerships Small Grants

IDRC invites applications for its 2011 Small Grants for Innovative Research and Knowledge-Sharing. Provided through our Canadian Partnerships program, these grants support research, knowledge-building, and knowledge-sharing projects. They also fund events and small dissemination activities and products. These grants are open to local, regional, national, and international organizations incorporated and headquartered in Canada that produce or share knowledge for development. Individuals may not apply. Organizations new to IDRC are encouraged to apply.

Call for Concept Notes: Promoting Healthy Diets

Call for Concept Notes: Expanding Fiscal Policies for Global and National Tobacco Control

Ecosystems and Human Health (Ecohealth)

In 2012, Ecohealth invites research award proposals that advance the Ecohealth program by exploring the challenges of developing healthier communities in more resilient agro-ecosystems. Possible examples include (but are not limited to) examining the links between agricultural development (including innovative technologies), sustainable livelihoods, food security and health; the growth of agri-food systems and their impact on health and environments; and innovations in social policy that promote sustainable ecosystems and healthier livelihoods for resource-poor farmers.

IDRC Research Awards

IDRC offers these research awards annually to Canadians, permanent residents of Canada, and citizens of developing countries pursuing master’s or doctoral studies at a recognized university or having completed a master’s or doctoral program at a recognized university. As a research award recipient, you will undertake a one-year paid program of research on the topic you submitted when competing for the award. During part of the time (often around 50%), you will be trained in research management through hands-on experience with your chosen program. You will work under the mentorship of a program officer.

Call for concept notes 2010: Adapting to Climate Change in Vulnerable Coastal Communities

Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) supports research in developing countries to promote growth and development. The result is innovative, lasting local solutions that aim to bring choice and change to those who need it most. IDRC’s Climate Change and Water Program (CCW) helps developing country researchers to understand the consequences of climate change on water resources and water-related natural hazards. It seeks ways to improve the ability of citizens, communities, and governments to adapt to the changing environment.

Eco EID: Ecohealth Emerging Infectious Diseases Research Initiative: Call for Proposals for Southeast Asia

Research funded through the Eco EID initiative’s Call for Proposals in South East Asia will apply an ecohealth approach to improve the understanding of the environmental, societal, and economic interactions associated with development that predispose the region to disease emergence and spread. It will also assist in the development of intervention strategies that sustainably prevent or limit the spread of emerging infectious diseases.

Integrated Research Partnerships for Malaria Control in Africa

IPMA, is committed to the global effort to eliminate the burden of malaria in Sub-Saharan Africa. IPMA fosters partnerships for integrated research across malaria-endemic regions of Sub-Saharan Africa. Integrated research requires systems thinking, collaboration across disciplines, sectors and regions, multi-stakeholder engagement, and sensitivity to social equity and environmental sustainability. The complexity of these challenges currently outpaces the existing capacities of research teams, especially in regions most affected by malaria.
Through this Call, IDRC will support the formation and consolidation of multi-national, multi-disciplinary research teams in high transmission and high-burden countries of Sub-Saharan Africa. The granted teams will develop research, build collaboration and alliances, and create advocacy and leverage funds for integrated malaria research and control. Granted teams will work towards a balanced mix of these outcome domains.

Economy and Environment Program for Southeast Asia

EEPSEA was established in May 1993 to support training and research in environmental and resource economics. Call for Concept Notes: The Canadian International Food Security Research Fund

The goal of the fund is to foster the development of more productive and sustainable agricultural systems that increase food security and enhance nutrition. The two key objectives are to:
a) Increase food security in developing countries through investments in applied research for agricultural productivity and nutrition; and
b) Harness Canadian expertise and knowledge in food security related science and technology to develop solutions with and for the developing world.

Addressing the Climate Vulnerabilities of Urban Africa

The Climate Change Adaptation in Africa (CCAA) research and capacity development program aims to improve the capacity of African countries to adapt to climate change in ways that benefit the most vulnerable. The program is jointly funded by Canada’s International Development Research Centre and the UK Department for International Development. To better prepare Africa’s urban settlements for climate variability and change, the Climate Change Adaptation in Africa program invites combined research and capacity building proposals that address the vulnerabilities of Africa’s urban centres to climate change, and will help urban stakeholders work together in developing adaptation options.
