Resuscitation and Knowledge Transfer and Exchange 2010

The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and the CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health are pleased to launch Resuscitation and Knowledge Transfer and Exchange 2010: Community and Health Care Providers.
The goal of this initiative is to fund research that explores how present and proposed policies, strategies, tools, training approaches, legislation or guidelines relating to knowledge transfer of resuscitation science influence the uptake of knowledge by lay-rescuers and/or first responders. The results of the research should lead to the development of new or improved knowledge transfer policies, mechanisms, and/or tools that will help improve survival outcomes from sudden cardiac arrest and ultimately, reduce disability and death among Canadians.

Built Environment: Population Health Intervention Research

Through this strategic initiative, the funding partners wish to solicit multidisciplinary and multi-sectoral proposals that address the link between the built environment and health and focus on solutions at the population level. The aims of the initiative are:
• to support intervention research that examines programs, events and/or policy changes related to the built environment (outcome of community planning, design and implementation) and has the potential to address health problems at the population level;
• to build population health research capacity in Canada to study the built environment and its impacts on obesity and other heath issues;
• to encourage "horizontal" networks and collaboration among the different sectors such as urban planners, researchers from various disciplines (including trainees and new investigators), communities, government, industry, and non-profit organizations; and
• to develop knowledge transfer and exchange (knowledge translation) opportunities between researchers and knowledge users.

Distinguished Clinician Scientist

The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada is offering a Distinguished Clinician Scientist award as an integral part of the New Investigator competition. Candidates applying for the Distinguished Clinician Scientist award will also be considered in the regular pool of New Investigator applicants. This award, which is partnered this year with the CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health will be offered to the highest ranked eligible clinician in the New Investigator competition. The Distinguished Clinician Scientist award carries a higher stipend than the New Investigator award, plus an additional research allowance.
