Policy Research grants are intended to stimulate research that will influence, guide or have a direct impact on policy decisions in tobacco control. The Specific objectives of the Policy Research Grant program are:
• To increase the involvement of policy decision makers at all levels in the research process.
• To foster excellent, timely research that will influence and guide policy decisions in tobacco control.

Idea Grants are designed to encourage unique or original research that has the potential to advance knowledge in tobacco control. Grants will allow investigators with innovative ideas and observations to conduct pilot studies, to perform secondary analysis of data sets or to gather new evidence necessary to determine the viability of research directions or hypotheses.

Research Planning Grants are offered for the purpose of bringing together new, multi-sectoral and interdisciplinary research teams to construct research proposals for submission to traditional open funding competitions. The main objective of the Strategic Initiative is to form solid, interdisciplinary teams in order to continue to advance scientific knowledge related to tobacco control and nicotine addiction.

The grant program is intended to support a broad range of research topics and areas as long as the proposed research is led by the applicant under professional research supervision. Specific objectives of the Student Research grant program are to support learning opportunities through a one-time grant for students wishing to conduct research projects related to tobacco abuse and nicotine addiction and to provide opportunities for graduate and post-doctoral students to improve skills in tobacco abuse and nicotine addiction research.

The objectives of the Workshop and Learning Opportunities Grant are to support workshops, meetings and events which focus on building research capacity by bringing together individuals from different disciplines and sectors to provide researchers and research end-users the opportunity to learn about current research, and to work together and to support projects focusing on regions or populations in which there has been a historic lack of capacity for research. Priority is given to first-time applicants, to regions or populations where development of research is more acutely needed and to events that address research priorities identified by the CTCRI Research Summit.
Deadline: Applications must be received at least 3 months prior to the start of the workshop or event.

Research Planning Grants are offered for the purpose of bringing together new, multi-sectoral and interdisciplinary research teams to construct research proposals for submission to traditional open funding competitions. Each successful proposal may receive a one-time grant of up to $15,000. Work is expected to be completed in one year’s time.
