Currently, one training opportunity is available at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) and one training opportunity is available at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). The JSC Aerospace Medicine Clerkship Program is designed to provide students with exposure to the clinical, operational and research aspects of space medicine. The UTMB “Principles of Aviation and Space Medicine” course provides an overview of aviation and space medicine. Both NASA and UTMB have agreed to reserve positions in their programs for CSA selected Canadian medical students or residents each year. Deadline: November 15, 2011 Details: Capacity Building in SS&T – Clusters PilotsAgency: CSA Space-related activities are often complex and involve a variety of disciplines. Experience shows that research outcomes benefit greatly from or are strengthened by collaboration amongst research and engineering teams. In addition, stronger competition at the international level and pressure on resources require that organizations collaborate with each other to build together a critical mass of world-class researchers. Networks, teams and clusters have been formed in Canada in the past through scientific collaboration, data sharing or technology development, amongst other activities. These initiatives should be further encouraged or sustained to face future challenges and trends in the space sector. Deadline: May 27, 2011 Details: Call for Canadian participation on the JAXA ASTRO-H mission Science Working GroupAgency: CSA Applicants are eligible to apply for one of the two positions and/or for funding to support research activities related to the ASTRO-H mission. These Canadian scientists will be expected to participate to the SWG activities, chaired by the ASTRO-H PI/Project Manager, Dr. Tadayuki Takahashi, and contribute scientific and/or technical expertise to the mission, including but not be limited to support of Canada’s contribution. A series of meetings are held throughout the year at various locations, notably the bi-annual SWG meetings and ASTRO-H Hardware Design Team meetings. It is offered by JAXA that the Canadian scientists on the SWG will have access to the science data during specific time period, which should include Performance Verification (PV) Phase, and will retain exclusive data rights for a certain time periods in the same manner as all other SWG members. For other specific time periods, appropriate observing time will be allocated to the Guest Observation Program through JAXA’s competitive AO process open to any scientists affiliated to institutions located in Canada. Deadline: April 22, 2011 Details: Aerospace Medicine ElectiveAgency: CSA The JSC Aerospace Medicine Clerkship Program is designed to provide students with exposure to the clinical, operational and research aspects of space medicine. The KSC Medical Education Program emphasizes aerospace medicine and occupational medicine. The UTMB Introduction to Aerospace Medicine Course provides an overview of aviation and space medicine. Deadline: June 1, 2010 Details: RFP: Polar Communication and WeatherAgency: CSA The purpose of the PCW mission is to provide robust 24/7 two-way communications capability to all of the Canadian North for high data rate (HDR) data and information products, potentially also low-data rate (LDR) communications capability, and also near-real time (NRT) meteorological information products about the North to users throughout Canada. These capabilities are Deadline: February 4, 2010 Details: Partnerships Support ProgramAgency: CSA The Canadian Space Agency’s objectives for the Partnerships Support Program are: Deadline: June 30, 2009 Details: Student Travel GrantsAgency: CSA The Canadian Space Agency is pleased to offer subsidies to Canadian students to help defray travel costs to the venue of the workshops, meals and accommodations. Any costs incurred beyond the amount of the subsidy are the responsibility of the student. Student Travel Grants are awarded for Division of Atmospheric and Space Physics (DASP) winter workshop 2009 and Space Environment Workshop (SEW) 2009. Deadline: January 16, 2009 Details: Request for Proposals for Analogue Research Studies in Canada and AbroadAgency: CSA The Canadian Space Agency has a mandate to increase knowledge of space through science. Terrestrial analogue research studies are an important element of that mandate as it applies to the exploration of other planets and the Moon. Analogue research studies help develop science questions, requirements, and expertise for future planetary exploration missions, and can be essential in developing knowledge of planetary processes from data returned by current and past missions. Canadian Space Agency (CSA), through a variety of consultations (e.g., workshops, advisory committees, discipline working groups), has confirmed that field-based analogue studies are a high priority area of research for the Canadian scientific community. Analogue activities are also of interest to several of our international Space partners. Thus, as part of its Planetary Exploration program, the Canadian Space Agency has developed the Canadian Analogue Research Network (CARN) that will enable Canadian and international scientists and engineers (including those from the Canadian Space Agency) to carry out activities at analogue sites in Canada. Deadline: December 12, 2008 Details: Request for Proposals for Access and Support for Activities at three Canadian Analogue Research Network (CARN) SitesAgency: CSA The Canadian Space Agency has a mandate to increase knowledge of space through science. The objective of this Request for Proposals (RFP) is to provide Research Grants supporting activities at the three specific Canadian Analogue Research Network (CARN) sites: 1). Haughton-Mars Project Research Station (HMPRS), Devon Island, Nunavut; 2). McGill Arctic Research Station (MARS), Axel Heiberg Island, Nunavut; 3). Pavilion Lake Research Project (PLRP) station, British Columbia. Deadline: December 12, 2008 Details: Space Science Enhancement ProgramAgency: CSA The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is intending to provide funding through grants in relation to the "Space Science Enhancement Program" for programmatic priority areas starting in 2009. For this competition, the CSA will be concentrating on providing awards for data analysis related to CSA-sponsored Space Science missions that are either providing data at the time of release of this announcement of opportunity, have flown and produced data in the past (data from recent missions will be given preference) or data that are expected to be obtained in the near future from missions that are approved and that have a manifested launch opportunity (i.e. missions currently manifested to launch on or before 31 March 2010). The CSA Space Science Enhancement Program (SSEP) is a component of the CSA Class Grant and Contribution Program to Support Awareness, Research and Training in Space Science and Technology.
