Agency:
AACR

The field of cancer prevention research is rapidly advancing and evolving. To sustain the advancement of the field and the development of new thinking and strategies, younger investigators must be encouraged to pursue cancer prevention research, yet few vehicles exist to recognize their accomplishments or support their early research efforts.
This award was established and first given in 2008 to recognize the outstanding achievement of a junior faculty-level scientist, and to provide support for cancer prevention research of significant scientific merit in any discipline across the continuum of research.

Discovery Frontiers Call for Proposals: Northern Earth System Research

Agency:
NSERC

The first Call for Proposals is in the area of Northern Earth System Research. The Earth System is defined as the unified set of physical, chemical, biological and social components, processes and interactions that together determine the state and dynamics of the Earth, including its biota and its human occupants.1 NSERC is soliciting collaborative research proposals from teams of NSERC-eligible researchers, with recognized expertise in their current fields, to work in an integrated manner to tackle broad problems defined with input of the northern community, aimed at identifying and understanding the inter-relationships that exist in northern earth systems (e.g., fresh water, sea level, permafrost, atmosphere, cryosphere, marine, weather patterns, biodiversity) and to research solutions-based approaches to climate change adaptation.

Regular Grants

Agency:
Alzheimer Society

The most favoured applications in the Regular Grants program are those which (a) focus on challenging new directions in research into Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, directions that are less likely to be funded by national funding agencies, perhaps because of insufficient preliminary data or the unorthodoxy of the research rationale or approach, and/or (b) are submitted by established researchers in fields not usually associated with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias research, who are proposing to apply their special approaches and techniques to novel projects clearly relevant to Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

Young Investigator Grant

Agency:
Alzheimer Society

Young Investigator (YI) Grants are prestigious funding opportunities designed to help launch the careers of outstanding young researchers who are entering their first phase of an academic appointment. The intent is to help the grantee establish his/her laboratory and generate enough preliminary data to support full research grant proposals in national funding competitions. Proposals are invited in all areas of biomedical and quality of life research that are relevant to Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

CFRP Renewal Of Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe

Agency:
WRF

This project is funded under the program, Innovation and Research for Water Infrastructure for The 21st Century. The objective is to perform technical work in support of establishing guidelines for renewal of prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP) using internally applied carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP). The project will investigate factors that should be considered when preparing, designing, testing and performing CFRP renewal work. The project will provide practical knowledge for water utilities to plan and implement CFRP renewal of PCCP, and will also provide technical information to American Water Works Association that could be used in setting standards for CFRP renewal of PCCP pipelines.

Other: Medical Imaging Clinical Trials Network

Agency:
CIHR

The current RFA provides an opportunity for Canada’s medical imaging community to come together to establish a clinical trials network that will coordinate and support imaging trials. As the funds for this initiative are a part of a larger Federal funding envelope for the Isotope Supply Initiative, the focus of the network, as least initially, must be on imaging modalities that use radiopharmaceuticals, including combined imaging modalities such as MRI/PET and must address the intent of the Federal Initiative, which is to reduce our reliance on 99mTc. It is expected that the successful network will encompass several medical disciplines, e.g. oncology, cardiology, neurology, immunology and will be national in scope with participation from a minimum of 10 centres across Canada, spanning a minimum of four provinces.

Priority Research Grants

Agency:
JDRF

The purpose of the Priority Research Grant mechanism is to provide investigators with support to explore the feasibility and development of proposals that are considered to be on the leading edge of diabetes research and that address the JDRF research emphasis areas. Proposals that have the potential to impact the current state of diabetes research or that clearly lead to avenues of therapeutic benefit are major considerations for the Priority Research Grant. Also of merit are exploratory proposals that may or may not have sufficient preliminary data but have a sound research development plan that is considered to be of high priority to JDRF. The Priority Research grant mechanism is specifically intended to support innovative proposals that can be developed to a level of maturity where generated data strengthens future research project grant applications for ongoing support.
