Idea to Innovation (I2I) Grants

Agency:
NSERC

The objective of the Idea to Innovation (I2I) Grants is to accelerate the pre-competitive development of promising technology originating from the university and college sector and promote its transfer to a new or established Canadian company. The I2I Grants provide funding to college and university faculty members to support research and development projects with recognized technology transfer potential. This is achieved through defined phases by providing crucial assistance in the early stages of technology validation and market connection.

Major Resources Support Program

Agency:
NSERC

The objective of the MRS program is to facilitate the effective access by Canadian academic researchers to major and unique national or international (based in Canada) experimental or thematic research resources by financially assisting these resources to remain in a state of readiness for researchers to use. MRS grants are not intended to support resources that are standard in a discipline or commonly available in Canadian universities. The MRS program also aims to facilitate access by Canadian academic researchers, who come together as national consortia, to major international resources located outside Canada, the equivalent of which is not available in Canada. This support excludes any direct financial support towards the operating and maintenance costs of such resources.

HFSP Research Grants

Agency:
HFSP

The Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) supports innovative basic research into fundamental biological problems with emphasis placed on novel and interdisciplinary approaches that involve scientific exchanges across national and disciplinary boundaries. In the past decade biological research has become increasingly quantitative rather than descriptive. The participation of scientists from disciplines outside the traditional life sciences such as biophysics, chemistry, computational biology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, nanoscience or physics has contributed to this change and will continue to do so. Such collaborations have opened up new approaches for understanding the complex structures and regulatory networks that characterize living organisms, their evolution and interactions.
To submit you must register and obtain a reference number by March 21, 2012.

Catalyst Grant: HIV/AIDS Community-Based Research (2012)

Agency:
CIHR

The CIHR HIV/AIDS Community-Based Research (CBR) Program assists community-based organizations, non-governmental organizations and institutions in developing the knowledge necessary to carry out their HIV/AIDS work in the most effective manner, and in creating expertise within these communities to conduct their own research. The aim of this Catalyst Grant is to provide seed money, on a short-term basis, to support health research activities which represent a first step towards the pursuit of more comprehensive funding opportunities (e.g., operating grants).

Other: Transplantation Research

Agency:
CIHR

The CIHR Program Grant in Transplantation Research has been developed in response to the workshop recommendations and will provide an opportunity for the transplantation community to come together in a national Program that will transform the clinical outcomes for Canadian transplant patients. The Program will integrate independently-fundable research projects and may include core technologies. The Program will encompass a number of sub-projects addressing the many facets of solid organ and HSCT transplantation, including research focused on, but not limited to, the priority areas described below. The Program will unite researchers from at least three of the four health research themes: biomedical; clinical; health systems and services; and population and public health and demonstrate a clear advantage over independent, single grants and a strong value-added component over status quo. The sub-projects that make up the Program must represent scientific input from all Principal Applicants. These sub-projects, which may differ substantially in size, complexity and cost, must be able to stand alone as independently-fundable research projects, but at the same time, must contribute substantially to the primary research goals of the program as a whole. Each sub-project can be either single focus or multidisciplinary in composition and scope.

Knowledge Synthesis Grant: Suicide Prevention

Agency:
CIHR

Applications are sought for knowledge syntheses grants that will underpin the future development of interventions related to suicide prevention. These syntheses should summarize the empirical evidence related to the effectiveness of suicide prevention interventions.
The successful teams will have six months to complete their synthesis at which time the team will present the results of their synthesis to Health Policy makers, research funders, and other stakeholders and will assist the group in the interpretation and contextualization of the findings. Expedited Knowledge Synthesis uses all of the characteristics of a standard CIHR funding opportunity, but several innovations have been introduced to allow a quick response to the knowledge needs of decision makers. As this is a novel program we encourage applicants to review all sections of this funding opportunity carefully.
