The objective of the Idea to Innovation (I2I) Grants is to accelerate the pre-competitive development of promising technology originating from the university and college sector and promote its transfer to a new or established Canadian company. The I2I Grants provide funding to college and university faculty members to support research and development projects with recognized technology transfer potential. This is achieved through defined phases by providing crucial assistance in the early stages of technology validation and market connection.

From 2011 to 2014, there will be a particular focus on freshwater and habitat protection. In 2011, the Environment Committee grants budget is approximately $500,000. Approximately one-third of the budget will be targeted towards each of the two priority areas. The remaining third is available for requests that meet our general environmental goals (above.) Multi-year requests related to the priority areas are encouraged and evaluation will be supported. We will likely only support two to three multi-year projects in each area.

The CIHR HIV/AIDS Community-Based Research (CBR) Program assists community-based organizations, non-governmental organizations and institutions in developing the knowledge necessary to carry out their HIV/AIDS work in the most effective manner, and in creating expertise within these communities to conduct their own research. The aim of this Collaborative Centres of HIV/AIDS Community-Based Research funding opportunity is to build HIV/AIDS CBR capacity across Canada, to create new and maintain existing partnerships between community and academia, and to foster the development of new HIV/AIDS CBR projects and applications for funding.

The purpose of this competition is to build health research capacity at Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) by supporting practice-based research projects across VCH that are directly relevant to current health care issues within VCH and based on the collaboration between health care providers and experienced researchers.

HEI is seeking qualified contractors to provide quality assurance oversight for two studies of exposure to air pollution and adverse human reproductive outcomes. To apply, a Letter of intent should be submitted by September 16, 2011.

The Cancer Research Society (CRS) operating grant is the principal means by which the Cancer Research Society supports research activities by independent scientists or small groups of investigators. The operating grant competition falls within our regular competitions and takes place every year.

To promote awareness of aerospace medicine and to encourage Canadians to pursue interests in this area, the CSA seeks to provide training opportunities for Canadian medical students and residents in aerospace medicine. Currently, one training opportunity is available at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) and one training opportunity is available at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). The JSC Aerospace Medicine Clerkship Program is designed to provide students with exposure to the clinical, operational and research aspects of space medicine. The UTMB “Principles of Aviation and Space Medicine” course provides an overview of aviation and space medicine. Both NASA and UTMB have agreed to reserve positions in their programs for CSA selected Canadian medical students or residents each year.

CIHR integrates research through a unique interdisciplinary structure made up of 13 virtual Institutes. The Institutes are networks of researchers and stakeholders brought together to focus on important health problems, with each Institute dedicated to a specific area of focus, linking and supporting researchers pursuing common goals. One of the mechanisms for the Institutes to achieve their mandates is the Institute Community Support (ICS) Program. The ICS Program is designed to foster community development by providing grants and awards to individuals and organizations for the purposes of:
- Aiding research and knowledge translation activities where the circumstances fall outside of CIHR’s current suite of funding programs.
- Supporting individuals and organizations whose goals are consistent with CIHR and its Institutes’ vision, mandate and strategic directions.

In this competition, funds are available to encourage and support applications in specific areas that are aligned with CIHR’s research priority areas and mandates. The specific objective of this funding opportunity is to support events/activities that contribute to the dissemination, exchange and uptake of research evidence.
Events/activities may focus on, but are not limited to, the following:
- Education of groups such as patients, health professionals, community organizations, policy-makers, the general public;
- Education of stakeholders regarding partnership best practices;
- Knowledge dissemination that will inform practice, clinical care, policy and decision making;
- Dissemination and/or discussion of research findings at scientific meetings, workshops, conferences, congresses or symposia.

The BC Clean Air Research Fund (BC CLEAR) is accepting new project applications for research grants of up to $25,000. Researchers from academic institutions, government organizations, First Nations, industry, consulting and non-government organizations are eligible to apply to the fund. All applied research projects that have direct relevance to air quality management within British Columbia are eligible for support from the BC CLEAR Fund.

CIHR’s mandate is to excel, according to internationally accepted standards of scientific excellence, in the creation of new knowledge and its translation into improved health, more effective health services and products, and a strengthened health care system. CIHR recognizes that an important part of this process is the planning required to build active and meaningful collaborations and/or effectively scan and understand the health research landscape before embarking on a grant application.

The broad purpose of this funding opportunity is to support workshops held in and outside of Canada, and conferences held in Canada.
The funding opportunity’s specific objectives are to:
• advance research and scholarship on issues of intellectual, cultural and social importance by facilitating direct interaction among researchers and students, both from Canada and abroad;

Insight Grants support research excellence in the social sciences and humanities. New Investigator Research Grants is a jointly sponsored program of SickKids Foundation and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research - Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health (IHDCYH). Grant recipients may obtain up to three years’ support for research in biomedical, clinical, health systems and services, population and public health sectors.
New Investigator Research Grants provide important early career development support to child health researchers. It is intended that New Investigator Research Grants will enhance the grant recipient’s ability to compete with more senior investigators for research grants from other funders.

JDRF is announcing a flexible funding opportunity for cutting edge clinical and pre-clinical research projects that address high priority topics serving the JDRF mission. Applications can be initiated via submission of a short, simple Project Concept form by email to the appropriate member of JDRF Program Staff. Project Concepts will be evaluated based on relevance to JDRF’s mission and priorities. If accepted, JDRF staff will assist applicants in developing their proposal.
