Funding Databases Recommended by the RCDO

Remember to review the Funding page, which lists available funding opportunities for research projects, workshops, and the development of research. Also, the BCEOHRN Funding page lists research capacity development grants, travel bursaries and networking facilitation funding offered by the BCEOHRN.

A Selected List of Grant Funding Databases:

Community of Science (COS): The world’s largest funding database! Over 25,000 records representing over 400,000 funding opportunities. Searchable by keyword, sponsor, or with deadlines in the next six weeks. You can also identify team members using the COS Expertise database to build a stronger funding application. If your institution is not subscribed to COS, please contact Dr. Tanya Wahbe. Check the COS website for upcoming COS Funding Search Workshops.

UBC Office of Research Services (ORS): Whether or not you are affiliated with UBC, this resource will help you to identify appropriate funding sources all year round! The list is updated on a daily basis.

The Green Source: A searchable database offered by Environment Canada. This resource guide provides sources of funding for environmental projects including information on public and private sector programs and organizations that provide financial assistance, labour costs or in-kind donations to community groups.

CIHR Funding Opportunities Database: The Canadian Institutes for Health Research provides a search engine that allows refined searches by 1) CIHR Institute/Portfolio, 2) type of funding opportunity (e.g., operating grant, graduate student research award, fellowship), 3) type of applicant (e.g., researchers, clinicians, graduate student), 4) application deadline date, and 5) launch date. Click on one of the four tabs to browse funding opportunities. You can also subscribe to the CIHR listserv by visiting the link: CIHR’s News for Researchers. CIHR Grants & Awards Information can also be obtained by calling: (613) 954-1968.

SSHRC: The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council provides a general page on research funding programs. The site is updated regularly and should be visited on a quarterly basis to keep informed of relevant funding opportunities. Also check What’s New for program changes, press releases, and a calendar of events. SSHRC does not currently have a listserv.

NSERC: The National Science and Engineering Research Council regularly posts new funding opportunities. Check the link often for opportunities that match your research team’s interests. NSERC has specific pages for Professors, for Students and Fellows, for Institutions and Colleges, and for Partners where you can see the latest news on grant programs. NSERC also offers subscriptions to live updates through RSS News Feeds so that researchers can be notified of any new grants and developments.

Members engaging in international research should check the Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research (CCGHR) Funding Road Map. The database filtering options include narrowing searches by keyword, title, deadline, program type, and general area of focus.

Environmental Health Funding Sources are listed on the First Nations Environmental Health Innovation Network (FNEHIN) website. Members engaging in environmental health research for Aboriginal communities may find suitable funding opportunities here. There are also numerous resources for Masters and Doctoral students.

National Institutes of Health (NIH): Visit this site for information on NIH offerings. The NIH posts links for grants and funding, Funding Opportunities and Notices, and provides all forms and deadlines.
